Morgan Library & Museum

New York, NY

The Morgan Library & Museum was contacted by Patrimonio Ediciones, S. L. in Spain, to publish a lush limited edition facsimile of the Morgan’s hand-painted fifteenth century Visconti-Sforza family Italian tarot deck, created by Bonifacio Bembo.

To complete this facsimile, high quality full resolution digital image files were created on the DT RG3040 copy stand (now the DT Element) with a Phase One IQ3 100MP digital camera back. The 100MP allows for controlled lighting so the gold leaf and textural incisions are shown to best advantage, an absolute necessity when printing high quality facsimiles. The 100MP capture files are color accurate, capture a full range of information, and adhere to FADGI 4 standards.

Digital Transitions helped the Morgan evolve to a fully digital studio, and has helped in all aspects of our image capture workflow, from metadata management to image capture and processing. Their commitment and outstanding service to the cultural heritage community makes them a true leader in the field.
